Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem is one of the most beautiful and spiritual works of the 19th century. Drawing on a range of texts from the German Lutheran bible that focus on spiritual healing, it was written to give comfort to the living rather than serve as a prayer for the dead. Berkhamsted Choral Society and our conductor Graham Wili will be joined by soprano Elen Lloyd Roberts, baritone Dyfed Wynn Evans and English Philharmonia to perform this profound piece of music in St Peter’s Church.

The final night of our summer tour!
Every August the choral societies of Berkhamsted and Chorleywood come together to form Gaudeamus Chorale, and together with organist Iestyn Evans we perform a three-concert tour of a European city. This year we will be in based in Delft in the Netherlands, singing Mozarts’s beautiful Missa Brevis in D minor in three historic churches around the country. Other much-loved choral pieces include Zadok the Priest by Handel, Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Haydn’s The heavens are telling and Lotti’s Crucifixus.
Our fourth and final concert is back in St Peter’s Church, Berkhamsted. Join us if you can!
